Pen Drawing in Moleskine Sketchbook

"Writer's Write." I need to post this at my computer to remind me of the simple fact that writer's write. And everyday at that. I write every day in my journal (which is also a Moleskine notebook) but this is usually pages dedicated to scribbling whatever is on my mind, or plans I have for a painting, or a book idea, maybe descriptions of my interactions during the day. My pages may include doodles, or lists of books to read, or events to attend. That sort of thing. It is a good way to warm up to the day and to center my thoughts. To help balance my perspective and even solve problems on the page. It is a place to vent. A place to write wishes and dreams and simply to grunt about something coming up I don't want to do. I have been painting and drawing and the novel writing and picture story writing is getting shoved aside. I'm trying to block out specific times to write and create art but it seems like the painting has been getting all of my attention lately.

In May I am planning to attend the writer's retreat by author Wade Rouse in Michigan. I need to take my manuscript with me. It is humor essay based on my day job at the convenience store. I almost have it completed but I must get back to writing everyday.......and if you want to read some funny stuff look up Wade Rouse. One of his most popular books is, "At least in the City Someone Would Hear Me Scream." I guarantee you will laugh.

Estelle/ Canvas Painting

I finished the "Estelle" painting today and just in time to go off to the day job. Would rather start another canvas immediately but such is the confines of the day job world, huh? Below is a close-up view of the painting.

#14 Painting a Day "Perp[lexed Zebra"

Pen drawing in Moleskine Sketchpad. This zebra is perplexed. Who moved my furniture? And don't blame the raccoons. They get blamed for everything.

#9 Painting a Day

The Painting a Day group I am involved with on the Loving Mixed Media social site (Gary Reef) has helped to turn a corner for me. I pick up a pen faster to make a sketch, I add to a canvas painting even if I only have 20 minutes to spare before work, etc. It seemed I was producing work before but now that I have to post a painting or a sketch every day I am producing BEFORE I do the dishes, or the laundry. Hey, someone else can do that.....

# 8 Painting a Day "Estelle"

This is a 24x36 canvas painting. I've done a simple base painting as the first layer, then I added a mixture of water, gesso, and glazing medium over that. Watch to see how this evolves.

3rd Painting for Painting a Day

Title: Idle
This is the 3rd painting I did for Painting a Day for the social site: Loving Mixed Media. Uh oh it is 3:40 am. Hhmmm, difficult to find the time beyond the day job. I struggled tonight. I started another painting...gessoed over it...started again...gesoed over it...began again and decided I wasn't being successful for two reasons: I was thinking too much and I hated the substrate I was using. I was using a canvas board. Yuck! I'll give these to my favorite two young boys who want to be painting artists.

Loving Mixed Media (LMM) Painting a Day

Title: If I'd Known

Uh oh I said yes to a painting a day. I'm involved with Gary Reef's social site titled, "Loving Mixed Media." The requirement is to post a drawing, doodle or painting every day. There is a lot to be learned (I suspect) by creating every day and having to show your peers the results. I'm just going to jump in and see how it goes...I am happy to report I agreed to do this a few hours ago and I posted the first piece about 10 minutes ago. Whew! Here it is with one close up shot. I did layers with watercolors, stencils, acrylic, oil pastel, and pen.

Art Exhibition Coming for Two Of my Favorites

I can hardly stand it...Michael DeMeng (art assemblage) just posted that he will be doing an exhibit soon in Port Townsend. And Jesse Reno (contemporary abstract painter) will be exhibiting at the same time. BBBWWAHHAAAA. I love and adore these two. I must go. Can I go? Would I be able to handle seeing them both in the same room? Can I? Can I go? Huh? Can I if I'm good?

Seriously though I have to check into this. If there is any way I can make this happen I will. I will pray to the art gods tonight.

Doodles Unleashed with Traci Bautista

This is the second year I've taken the Strathmore online classes. Traci Bautista is the first workshop instructor. I used stencils (some found objects such as a pine branch, lace, feather, rubberbands, etc.) , then I made spray watercolor paint to start a background. I used golden fluid acrylic paints and caran d'ache oil crayons to add design. Made the black circles by stamping a small spool in paint. Used daler rowney liquid acrylic to add further marks and designs. Put a wash over the entire piece with sunshine yellow india ink to pull it all together. Added white with a gelly roll pen and whiteout. I used a brush to put the white out on. Ruined the brush. Traci uses white out pens but I didn't have one yet.

Handmade Art Journal

This is a handmade art journal I made today to use in Zinnia's "Journal Journey" on Roses on my Table" site. I glued every two pages together in hopes this will help support the type work I do.

This is the front cover...Once upon a time.

This is the back cover...I listened to the birds today.

Iused two layers of gesso before I painted with acrylic. I used opaque pens and a white gelly pen for accents. I will keep you posted on how the pages hold up. The color of the paper is a muted green so I will probably use some gesso on the pages I intend to paint.

PS Isn't it wonderful to be spinning in a new year. New ideas. New starts.
