How I Paint Water (Zebra Cartoon)

How do I paint water?

Build layers of color starting with the lightest shade. I allow the first layer to dry. When I want to reveal water ripples I add "wet" splotches of paint and immediately press crumpled plastic wrap onto the wet paint. I wait a few seconds and lift it up and off. Let this dry and repeat. Remember to leave white areas for light.

And here's the big tip of the day (I'll probably be famous for this); for pee add a bit of Tim Holtz (Ranger) Distress Stickles in the color Scattered Straw. timholtz.com/blog   Stickles is a glitter glue that comes in a handy little squeeze bottle. (Yes, I've always been addicted to glitter and now as an adult artist instead of using glitter on handmade valentines I can create my own artsy pee.)

Stillman & Birn Zeta Sketchbook is a Joy to Use With Watercolors

I'm working in the Stillman & Birn Zeta Series sketchbook (hardbound). It is almost filled with Zebra cartoons. I must order another soon. The paper is smooth, white and heavy. It is a joy to use with ink and watercolors. I know it is advertised to hold up to mixed media. May have to get a larger one and experiment with mixed media in it. Love those Stillman & Birn people.stillmanandbirn.com

What paper are you using?

Sabrina Ward Harrison's Book Invites Creative Expression

I am working in the art journal/book "And The Story is Happening( a journal and collage)" by the fabulous Sabrina Ward Harrison.(Chronicle Books 2012)   This is a beautiful book and it took me a bit of time to have a go at the idea that I would be creating on the pages of this book. But that is the intention Sabrina has offered in this journal of her brilliant collage art.

There is a vellum pocket on the inside cover with pieces of paper ephemera. (FUN!) Sabrina invites us to tell our stories through writing, painting, collage or whatever creative expression we desire. Here is a capture of my moon story. The quote and background is Sabrina's work. The story and face are mine. You can see how much fun it was for me to define a face from Sabrina's background painting.

Dream big. Express freely. Here are some of Sabrina's links to inspire you,
