Ah, the change of seasons...especially the sense of Fall around the corner, always reminds me of family. Maybe it's the holidays of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas that help define this for me. Fall seems to be a time for reflection. A time to re-energize for a new season and yet to slow down and ponder a bit on the front porch with a cup of herbal tea.

This is the time of year I want Sunday suppers with family, walks in nature, quiet days at the beach right before sunset, and night walks with my camera (the kind with real film).

If I could take a leave from the day job any time during the year I'd choose September through December. I love the smell in the air, the celebrations, the idea of Fall bursting with color and light and then quieting into winter with a neutral- subdued color palette; yet promising a lovely, peaceful sense of solitude and rest while the snow sparkles under the moonlight. (Which by the way is the perfect time for a walk).

I often fantasize about how wonderful and magical it would be to take a four month art/writing retreat September through December. If I figure out how to do this I'll let you know.

What time of year would you do a retreat?
